Swim Lessons

EVERYONE IN THE POOL!

Athletes participating in Atlanta area Triathlons age ranges from 7-15. Distances are short and intended simply to expose our youngest athletes to basic elements of triathlon accomplishments that comes with finishing a triathlon. All athletes are members of the USA Triathlon Association. The focus of these multisport events is FUN. Coaches and parents emphasize enjoyment and learning proper skills and give them a taste of the unique sense of healthy exercise habits that will last a lifetime.

Participation in the water robotics program helps H20 Academy athletes gain a better understanding of the integrated components of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) while remaining water centric. Students are given a mission for which they are to construct an underwater robot and compete with it to accomplish specific tasks.
Through the processes of designing and competing, students sharpen their critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork and presentation skills. In addition, the swimmers are able to use the knowledge acquired from their swim training and apply it directly to concepts such as density, floatation, buoyancy, etc. Experience with STEM prepares students for college and makes them eligible for future scholarship and employment opportunities.

USA Swimming is the National governing body for competitive swimming in the United States. Swimmers are included in the same group as the members of the USA Olympic swim team. At this level, athletes are required to practice between 2 to 5 days a week. Swimmers can compete in both USA and YMCA meets.

There are multiple levels of swimmers, first of which is DSL swimming.  Swimmers are accepted after swim lessons and are placed in a structured program that will develop all four competitive strokes.  Freestyle, Back, Breast and Butterfly swim and competition skills are taught, enabling each swimmer the ability to compete. While competing is not required, practice 2 days a week, swimming from 30 minutes to 45 minutes is required. Each new stroke and skills learned, allows advancement to the next level.  By the end of the program, the swimmers are able to go into the next training group. Swimmers may swim in non USA sanctioned meets and YMCA meets.

Mission

We are a non-profit entity that focuses on educating inner city youth about water safety and physical fitness using water for endurance, muscle and STEM training.  H2O Academy utilizes a positive self-image psychology approach to educating and training our students.  It is our belief that success is a by-product of a positive environment and a positive self-image.  Our programs are geared to help each athlete realize his/her potential by supporting their efforts in a positive manner; both in and beyond the confines of the pool, track, and classroom.

H2O Academy strives to instill an understanding of, and appreciation for, such concepts as high self-esteem, personal accountability, self-discipline, goal setting and goal achievement. We know that not every athlete in our program will be an Olympian, but they can all learn, internalize and live the Olympic ideals of vision, focus, persistence, commitment and discipline.  These principles, more than any gold medal or national record, will help each child as they grow and enter the realms of higher
education and society in general. We strongly feel that if you help nurture the child, you will help develop and even unleash the champion within as well. Upon completion, each H2O Academy athlete will be certified as a lifeguard and receive assistance to secure scholarships for college.

H20 Academy is focused on 4 programs: DSL Swimming, USA Swimming, Water Robotics, and USA

The Swimming School has been teaching people to swim since it opened in 2000, serving over 1000 students each year.

Tri PE for a Day

In partnership with more than 200 schools across the United States, we will introduce more than 100,000 kids to the sport of triathlon during 2015. In most cases, our programs are integrated into the existing physical education classes for a day or two, and every child learns from an experienced triathlete. This athlete comes to your school to talk about bike safety, swim safety, proper nutrition and other subjects important to triathletes. The programs are fast-paced and fun.
In addition, these programs are often the first step in the formation of a triathlon team at the school. This is a great way to get kids excited about completing their first triathlon – along with their friends and classmates. In addition, we offer an educational grant program through which more than $100,000 has been donated back to schools to support their efforts to keep kids healthy and active throughout the year.
